Building a Community of Support and Accountability for Life After Incarceration
The Aftercare Fraternity helps guide former offenders through their transition to sustained independence by offering ongoing support, life skills training, and mentorship. Explore how PSD’s Fraternity is reshaping reentry success with a model built on peer-driven leadership and commitment.
The Fraternity is organized into five teams, each consisting of five members. Graduates of PSD’s programs are divided among these teams, where they receive guidance and model the PSD system for new participants. Those wishing to become fully involved may join the Fraternity, committing to at least twice-monthly community service.
Teams consist of 5 members each, with about 20 students per team.
Members serve as mentors and role models for new graduates.
Community service at least twice per month is mandatory for members.
Full membership requires completing 12 weeks of Membership Qualification Classes.
For the past two years, the Fraternity has worked to support high-risk individuals and troubled families through an offender-led philosophy. The goal is to create an “all-inclusive” community that fosters personal growth and self-sustenance, helping graduates pursue and achieve their life goals.
PSD believes one year of aftercare support is critical to reducing recidivism, especially during the vulnerable first year post-release. Intensive aftercare costs approximately $3,000 per person annually—a one-time investment compared to the $50,000 recurring cost of recidivism.
